The trade deadline passed. Your next draft doesn't have to wait.
Short answer: once your league's trade deadline passes, new trades are closed, but a trade accepted before the deadline can still go through if your league has a review period. Waiver claims and pickups of unclaimed players usually still work. Check your league settings to be sure. If you miss the drafting and dealing, add a one-week game. Draft Duel is free and head-to-head: you draft a brand-new team against one opponent in 5 minutes, and that week's real NFL games decide it.
Beat your rivals. Every week. In 5 minutes.
What changes after the trade deadline
Most season-long leagues stop trades late in the season, often somewhere around Weeks 11 to 13, so nobody can stack a contender at the last minute. Check your league settings for the exact week, since every league sets its own. After that point:
- New trades are closed. The team you have is the team you finish with, give or take waiver pickups.
- Pending trades can still process. A trade accepted before the deadline can still go through during your league's review period.
- Commissioners can change it. In most leagues the commissioner can move the deadline or switch it off, so ask yours if you're not sure.
- Waivers still matter. A streaming defense or a backup who steps into a bigger role can still swing a week.
- Lineup calls are the main job. Most weeks come down to start-or-sit decisions.
What to do after the trade deadline
| Option | What it means | Honest take |
|---|---|---|
| Work the waiver wire | Claim players whose roles grew after injuries or depth chart changes. | Still the best way to improve a locked roster. Check your league's waiver rules. |
| Stream positions | Pick up a defense, kicker or tight end each week based on the matchup. | Small edges that add up, but it means churning your roster every week. |
| Plan for the playoffs or keepers | Stash depth for your playoff weeks, or eye keepers if your league has them. | Smart if you're in the race or in a keeper league. Otherwise it changes little. |
| A one-week head-to-head duel | Draft a brand-new team against one opponent for one week, then do it again next week. | Gives you a full draft every week on the side of your league. Draft Duel is built for it. |
Whatever you choose, keep setting your best lineup. Playoff races depend on fair matchups.
How a weekly duel scratches the drafting itch
- A fresh team each week. Nothing carries over, so you're never stuck with the roster you had at the deadline.
- One rival. Challenge a league-mate with a share link or code, get paired through matchmaking, or pass one phone back and forth.
- A 5-minute draft. Each round a random NFL team is drawn and you both pick from that same team. First pick alternates every round.
- Nine starters, no bench. QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, FLEX, K and DEF, scored with standard PPR.
- 90 seconds per pick. If the clock runs out, the best available player who fits your roster is picked for you.

Frequently asked questions
What can I do in fantasy football after the trade deadline?
Keep setting your best lineup, keep working the waiver wire, and if you miss drafting, add a weekly game like Draft Duel, where you draft a brand-new team every week.
Can I still pick up players after the trade deadline?
In most leagues, yes. Trades close at the deadline, but waiver claims and free-agent pickups usually stay open. Check your league settings to be sure.
When is my fantasy league's trade deadline?
Most leagues lock trades late in the season, often somewhere around Weeks 11 to 13. The commissioner can usually move the deadline or turn it off, so check your league settings for the exact week.
Is there fantasy football where I draft a new team every week?
Yes. In Draft Duel every team lasts one NFL week. You draft against one opponent in 5 minutes, that week's games decide it, and next week starts fresh.
Can I play against people from my league?
Yes. Send any league-mate a share link or code and draft head-to-head for that week. You can play a different one every week.
Is Draft Duel free?
Yes. There are no entry fees and no cash prizes. You only need a free account.
Is the fantasy trade deadline the same as the NFL trade deadline?
No. The NFL's trade deadline comes first, around the middle of the season, and it only applies to real NFL teams. Your fantasy league sets its own deadline, usually later in the season, and your commissioner can often change it. Check your league settings for the exact week.
