Fantasy football with coworkers, one week at a time

Short answer: the easiest alternative to a season-long office fantasy football league is a weekly one-on-one duel. You challenge one coworker, you both draft a one-week team, and that week's real NFL games decide who wins. Nobody has to commit to a full season or run the league. On Draft Duel the draft takes 5 minutes, and next week you pick a new coworker or run it back.

Beat your rivals. Every week. In 5 minutes.

Why office leagues stall

An office league asks a lot: a draft everyone has to show up for, a commissioner to keep it running, and months of lineups, waivers and trades. People get busy, and some stop checking in. By midseason a few teams are on autopilot, and the managers who are still playing get stuck facing them.

Season-long office leagueEveryone drafts before the season and plays every week, with standings and a commissioner. The classic, but it needs a commissioner and managers who stay active all season.

How a coworker duel works

  1. Send a challenge link. Create an account, start a duel and send the link to a coworker. They join with their own account.
  2. Draft in 5 minutes. Each round a random NFL team is drawn and you both pick a player from it. Every pick has a 90-second clock, and if it runs out, the best available player who fits your roster is picked for you.
  3. Fill nine starters. QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, FLEX, K and DEF. No bench, no waivers, no trades.
  4. Let the games decide. Your starters score standard PPR points in that week's games. The higher total wins.

Fair for the coworker who doesn't follow football

Because you both pick from the same randomly drawn team each round, memorizing rankings matters less. The coworker who barely watches can still beat the one who talks fantasy all day. If someone on your team is new to the game, point them to our guide to fantasy football for beginners.

Rematches and result cards

Every finished duel gets a shareable result card with both teams and the final score, so the winner has proof for the team chat. Either player can request a rematch, and the other can accept or decline. Keep one rivalry going all season, or work your way through the whole department one duel at a time.

Keep it one on one

Every Draft Duel matchup is two people. If you want to know why that works better than a tiny two-team league, read our page on 1v1 fantasy football. If your office already has a league, you don't have to quit it. Play a duel on the side, or see our season-long fantasy football alternative if you're ready to leave the format behind.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an alternative to an office fantasy football league?

Yes. Instead of a season-long league, play weekly one-on-one duels. On Draft Duel you challenge a coworker, both draft a one-week team in 5 minutes, and that week's real NFL games decide the winner.

How do I challenge a coworker to fantasy football?

Sign up now at draftduel.us, start a duel and send your coworker the challenge link. They join with their own account and you draft together.

Can our whole office play Draft Duel?

Every duel is one on one, but anyone in the office can play. Line up a different coworker each week, or keep a running rivalry with the same one.

What if a coworker stops playing midseason?

There's no season to abandon. Each duel lasts one week, so nobody gets stuck facing an inactive team. Anyone can sit out a week and jump back in later.

Can a coworker who doesn't follow football win?

Yes. Both players pick from the same randomly drawn NFL team each round, so knowing the rankings matters less than making the best pick from the team in front of you.

How do we settle who won?

When the week's games finish, the higher PPR total wins. Every duel gets a shareable result card with both teams and the final score, and either player can request a rematch.

What is the easiest way to play fantasy football at work?

Play one-week duels instead of running a season-long league. There's no commissioner job, no draft night to schedule and no season to finish. On Draft Duel two coworkers draft a one-week team in 5 minutes, and that week's real games decide it.
