Your fantasy league went inactive. Your week doesn't have to.
Short answer: message the inactive manager privately and give them a clear deadline to start setting lineups. If that doesn't work, use your league's inactivity rule or the commissioner's lineup tools, and replace the manager if your league settings let the commissioner hand the team to someone new. Then add a weekly duel on the side so your own week doesn't depend on anyone else showing up. On Draft Duel you draft a new team against one active opponent each week, in 5 minutes.
Beat your rivals. Every week. In 5 minutes.
Why leagues go quiet midseason
It happens in a lot of leagues. Someone's team starts 1-5 and they stop checking. Someone else forgets their login. A trade fight turns into a manager benching their whole roster. Now you're playing teams with empty lineup slots, the standings stop meaning much, and the group chat goes silent.
Replacing a manager midseason isn't always possible, and finding someone who wants a bad team in October is even harder.
What to do when your fantasy league goes inactive
| Option | What it means | Honest take |
|---|---|---|
| Nudge the manager with a deadline | A private message: set your lineup by Sunday or the league finds a replacement. | Often works, since a lot of people just forgot. Try it first. |
| Commissioner sets lineups | The commissioner fills the inactive team's empty slots, if your league settings allow it. | Keeps matchups fair for the teams that play them, but it's extra work every week. |
| Replace the manager | Hand the team to a new person, if the commissioner can reassign teams in your league settings. | The real fix, but few people want a losing team midseason. |
| Write an inactivity rule for next season | Agree now on what happens after missed lineups, such as removal from the league. | Helps next season. It won't fix this one. |
| Play a one-week duel on the side | Draft a new team against one active opponent for one week, then do it again. | Doesn't fix the league, but every week still has a matchup that counts. Draft Duel is built for it. |
Play the people who still care
Draft Duel is one on one, so you only need one other person who wants to play.
- Challenge an active league mate with a share link or code.
- Get matched with a stranger through online matchmaking.
- Pass the phone if you're in the same room.
Each week is a brand-new draft and a single matchup, settled by that week's real NFL games.
How a duel works
- A random NFL team each round. A team is drawn and you both pick a player from it.
- 90 seconds per pick. If the clock runs out, the best available player who fits your roster is picked for you, so nobody can stall.
- Nine starters, no bench. QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, FLEX, K and DEF.
- Standard PPR scoring. The higher total wins.
Because the auto-pick fills empty picks, a duel never ends up with a blank lineup the way a dead league team does.
Keep your season-long league too
You don't have to quit your league. Finish it out, and play a duel on the side so every week still has a game that matters. If your league falls apart for good, you've already got a weekly rival lined up for next season. If your own team is out of the race too, here's what to do when your fantasy team is out of the playoffs. Thinking about leaving the season-long format altogether? Frequently asked questions
What can I do when my fantasy football league is inactive?
Keep your league, but add a weekly game that doesn't depend on the other managers. On Draft Duel you draft a fresh one-week team against one active opponent, and that week's real games decide it.
Can I play fantasy football without a full league?
Yes. Draft Duel only needs two people. Challenge one friend with a link or code, or get matched with a stranger online.
What happens if my Draft Duel opponent doesn't make a pick?
Every pick has a 90-second clock. If it runs out, the best available player who fits that roster is picked automatically, so both lineups always fill up.
Is Draft Duel a replacement for my season-long league?
It can be, but it doesn't have to be. Many players keep their season-long league and play a weekly duel on the side.
How long does a weekly duel take?
The draft takes 5 minutes, then your nine starters score PPR points in that week's real games.
Does Draft Duel cost anything?
No. Draft Duel is free to play with no entry fees. Sign up now at draftduel.us.
How do you handle an inactive manager in fantasy football?
Start with a private message and a clear deadline. If they still don't set lineups, follow your league's inactivity rule, and check your league settings to see whether the commissioner can set lineups for that team or hand it to a new manager. Before next season's draft, agree on an inactivity rule so everyone knows what happens.
